Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to Hanzi Mosaic ("we," "our," or "us"), an app by ToneSeed. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Hanzi Mosaic mobile application (the "App") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Hanzi Mosaic teaches Chinese characters (HSK 3.0, simplified and traditional) by building them from pieces.

2. Information We Collect

Hanzi Mosaic has no accounts. You never give us your name, email address, or password to use the App. We collect the following:

• Learning progress and preferences - the pieces and characters you have learned, review history, memory strength, your placement check result, whether you learn simplified or traditional characters, daily time budget, theme and handwriting settings. This is stored on your device only.
• Handwriting - strokes you draw on the writing pad are compared with reference stroke data on your device to give feedback. Drawings are not saved and never leave your device.
• Purchase and entitlement information - whether you have Hanzi Mosaic Pro. Payments are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat using an anonymous identifier; we never receive your payment details.
• Usage analytics - events about how the App is used, such as lessons started and completed, review answers (correct or not, and how long they took), placement check results, your choice of simplified or traditional characters, and paywall views. These are tied to an anonymous app instance identifier generated by Firebase Analytics, not to you personally. We do not collect the advertising identifier (IDFA).
• Device and diagnostic data - technical information such as app version, operating system, device model and crash information, used to keep the App stable.
• Support communications - your email address and message if you contact us.

3. On-device features

Pronunciation audio uses Apple's on-device speech synthesis. Alternative memory stories, when available, are generated with Apple's on-device language model. Neither sends your data to us.

4. How We Use Information

• Provide the App and save your progress on your device
• Schedule reviews and choose what to practise next
• Check whether you have access to Pro and restore purchases
• Understand which lessons and features help learners so we can improve them
• Fix crashes and performance problems
• Answer your support requests

5. Sharing

We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising. We share limited data only with service providers that run parts of the App for us:

• Google Firebase Analytics - anonymous usage analytics
• RevenueCat - purchase and subscription status
• Apple - payments through the App Store

Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy and only for the purpose above.

6. Tracking

Hanzi Mosaic does not track you across other companies' apps or websites and does not show ads.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Your learning data lives on your device. Deleting the App deletes it. Anonymous analytics are kept for up to 14 months and then deleted by Firebase. To ask us about any data related to you, contact support@toneseed.app.

8. Children

The App is suitable for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data and to object to processing. Because the App does not identify you, most requests can be met by deleting the App. For anything else, contact support@toneseed.app.

10. Changes

We may update this policy. We will change the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the App.
