Terms of Use

1. Agreement

These Terms of Use govern your use of the Transcribe mobile application (the "App") provided by ToneSeed. By using the App you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. The App

Transcribe helps you write down music you hear: it plays recordings and song links, lets you loop and slow them down, and engraves what you write. The AI draft and the automatic check are aids that listen to your recording on your device. They can miss or misread notes, so check their results by ear.

3. Transcribe Plus

The free version of the App includes three scores in total; deleted scores still count toward the three. More scores, AI drafts, the automatic check, and MusicXML, MIDI and image export require a Transcribe Plus subscription, offered as monthly or yearly auto-renewing plans, sometimes with a free trial.

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase, or when a free trial ends.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period at the then-current price.
  • You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your App Store account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not refund the current period.
  • Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.

4. Your Music and Recordings

You are responsible for the recordings you add and the links you play, and for having the right to use them. Transcriptions you make are yours. Many songs are protected by copyright: writing them down for your own study is generally fine, but publishing or selling transcriptions may need the rights holder's permission.

Playback of YouTube and Apple Music links is provided by those services and is subject to their terms. The App does not download or store streamed audio.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to copy, reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the App except as allowed by law, and not to use it in a way that harms the App or other people.

6. Third-Party Software

The App's design and code are owned by ToneSeed. It includes open-source components used under their licences: the Verovio engraving library (LGPL-3.0), Basic Pitch by Spotify (Apache-2.0), the Bravura music font (SIL Open Font License), the GeneralUser GS sound font by S. Christian Collins, and the Bricolage Grotesque and Instrument Sans fonts (SIL Open Font License). Verovio's source, and our changes to it if any, are available on request.

7. Disclaimer

The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, ToneSeed is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the App. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the App in the twelve months before the claim.

9. Apple

These terms are between you and ToneSeed, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept them.
