1. Introduction

Welcome to Tells ("we," "our," or "us"), an app by ToneSeed. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Tells mobile application for iOS and Android (the "App") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Tells is a game in which you identify languages from short speech clips and written samples.

2. Information We Collect

Tells has no accounts. You never give us your name, email address, or password to use the App. We collect the following:

  • Game progress and preferences - your answers, XP, level, streak, missions, achievements, the languages in your atlas, World Tour progress and settings. This is stored on your device only.
  • Purchase and entitlement information - whether you have Tells Pro. Payments are processed by Apple or Google and managed through RevenueCat using an anonymous identifier; we never receive your payment details.
  • Usage analytics - screens viewed and a few game events, such as onboarding completed, a session finished (mode, number of correct answers, new languages met, streak length), paywall views and purchases. These are tied to an anonymous app instance identifier generated by Firebase Analytics, not to you personally.
  • Device and diagnostic data - technical information such as app version, operating system, device model, crash reports and error logs, collected through Firebase Crashlytics to keep the App stable.
  • Support communications - your email address and message if you contact us.

We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone input or any content you create. The App never records audio; speech clips are played from files that ship with the App.

3. Language Map

The zoomable language map in the atlas is displayed with Google Maps. When it loads, your device requests map tiles from Google, which receives standard technical information such as your IP address and device type under the Google Privacy Policy. The map only shows where languages are spoken; Tells never asks for or uses your location. When you are offline, a simple built-in map is shown instead.

4. Sharing Your Score

When you tap Share, the App opens your device's share sheet with a text summary of your result. Nothing is sent unless you choose where to share it, and what happens next is governed by the app you share to.

5. How We Use Information

  • Provide the App and save your progress on your device
  • Build daily broadcasts and choose rounds that match your level
  • Check whether you have access to Pro and restore purchases
  • Understand which modes and languages players enjoy so we can improve them
  • Fix crashes and performance problems
  • Answer your support requests

6. Sharing With Service Providers

We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising. We share limited data only with service providers that run parts of the App for us:

  • Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics - anonymous usage analytics and crash reports
  • Google Maps - the language map
  • RevenueCat - purchase and subscription status
  • Apple and Google - payments through the App Store and Google Play

Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy and only for the purpose above.

7. Tracking and Advertising

Tells does not show ads and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. On iOS the App does not access the advertising identifier (IDFA). On Android, Firebase Analytics may read the Android advertising ID for measurement; we do not use it for advertising, and you can reset or delete it at any time in your device's Google or Privacy settings.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Your game data lives on your device. Deleting the App deletes it. Anonymous analytics are kept for up to 14 months and then deleted by Firebase; crash reports are kept for up to 90 days. To ask us about any data related to you, contact support@toneseed.app.

9. Children

The App is suitable for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data and to object to processing. Because the App does not identify you, most requests can be met by deleting the App. For anything else, contact support@toneseed.app.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. We will change the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the App.
