1. Agreement

These Terms of Use govern your use of the Tells mobile application for iOS and Android (the "App") provided by ToneSeed. By using the App you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. The App

Tells is a game for identifying languages from speech and writing. Tells, field notes and facts are written for play and general interest: we work to keep them accurate, but languages vary by region and speaker and we cannot guarantee that all content is free of errors.

3. Tells Pro

The daily broadcast is free. Tells Pro unlocks all languages, Survival, the World Tour, face-offs and unlimited practice. It is offered as weekly or yearly auto-renewing subscriptions, sometimes with a free trial for new subscribers.

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase, or when a free trial ends.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period at the then-current price.
  • You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not refund the current period.
  • Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to copy, reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the App or its content except as allowed by law, and not to use it in a way that harms the App or other people.

5. Content and Licences

The App's game design, tells, field notes, illustrations, mascot and design are owned by ToneSeed. Some content comes from open datasets and is used under their licences: speech recordings from FLEURS by Google (CC BY 4.0) and example sentences from Tatoeba (CC BY 2.0 FR). Clips may be trimmed. Full credits are listed in the App under Settings, Credits and licences.

6. Disclaimer

The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, ToneSeed is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the App. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the App in the twelve months before the claim.

8. Apple and Google

These terms are between you and ToneSeed, not Apple or Google. Apple and Google have no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App. If you downloaded the App from the App Store, Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them, and Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. If you downloaded it from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept them.
